Re: Key Learnings in Process Implementation
The interplay between sub-optimisations and E2E optimisations can lead you on a perpetual journey of chasing your own tail i.e. loads of action with no real results.

My consulting experience constantly brings me to the same scenario: division A has optimised their process capability to amazing heights. Division B is grappling with the concept of Process and Division C thinks that Process is good idea but does not have time to create a process driven approach. Division A, B and C all support the same strategy and have the same customers at the end of the day.

So here comes part one of my pearl of experience: The award winning optimisations of one Division has marginal impacts on achieving improved customer experience and ultimately your strategy. You must appreciate that you deliver value across your company to subset of customers according to an agreed strategy.

Ok so how do people respond? "Dear Board Members we strongly recommend a multi-million dollar ______ (you fill in the blank: Automation, ERP or Technology Solution)"

So let us explore this, we have E2E processes with varied degrees of efficiency and we are bringing in something that will pass widgets through this process at a faster rate. In effect we are multiplying the magnitude of the inefficiencies by increasing the throughput (….well if you are lucky after some years only....with expensive tail chasing and price hikes) To push this even further, you see software vendors dictating how they think you should deliver your unique value proposition to the market with their "packaged" processes.

So my polished pearl then goes something like this: E2E process uniquely define your value proposition to the market. Master your unique business processes and then consider technology decisions to achieve your strategy. Your processes are the most important assets you own…
