Archimate
Has anyone looked at Archimate?

This is a new notation style apparently intended for architects to produce enterprise architecture. I'm looking to see if anyone has an opinion on this:

Re: Archimate
I've had a brief look at it. Its a good idea to bring in some standardized capabilities for EA into a Visio based modelling environment.

Visio still lacks the ability to be fully repository driven (compared to Sparx EA and the likes of Aris)- although some extra coding can fix this problem (I've seen some custom solutions). It is in that context that I feel that the direction is fair, but needs to have a longer term view in which architecture does not merely become a picture, but represents content that is in production. Sounds too pro-MDA maybe, but Visio's standard capabilities need some more work.

Having said this, it should be mentioned that Visio can be integrated with EA's database through a 3rd party product.

Look at www.orbussoftware.com. This company provides repository based software for Microsoft Office and Visio with support for TOGAF.

Re: Archimate
I have looked at Archimate and recently wrote an article on the topic on my blog (See the URL at the end of the message). I think Archimate is worthwhile keeping track off. It is the most integrated implementation meta model that has surfaced so far in the standards space for modeling. If I have a choice between UML, PBMN and Archimate as options for modeling an enterprise architecture I would prefer to use Archimate. It has a simple yet extendable meta model with very defined viewpoint to show how the architectural components work together in the design. I predict that if we are going to find Opensource Vendors entering the enterprise architecture space then they are going to adopt Archimate as standard. It is significant to note that both ARIS and CaseWise has already released models to support Archimate.

Check out my blog for more:

Re: Archimate
Thanks guys.

So - too new to make a call , but worth watching. Apparently Sparx are including it in their next release of EA as well.
