Collaborative systems are designed to assist organisations in achieving goals on common tasks. Collaborative software is the basis for system supported cooperative work. Such software systems include email, calendaring, text chats, wikis and blogs. This investigation evaluates four open source collaboration packages namely Scalix, E-GroupWare, OpenGroupware and Open Exchange. The study provide a detailed comparison and an evaluation of the application within the collaboration tools category. The core product measurement attributes and their descriptions are listed. The scaling of attributes and final scores are qualitative in nature.However, some values used quantitative information, which were subsequently converted to a qualitative scale relative to the sample.
